THE EQUIPMENT:
We also offer specialist assistance in the monitoring of fugitive biogas emissions from the landfill body (“Guidance on monitoring landfill gas surface emissions”) and Soil Gas from the surface (SNPA [National Environmental Protection System] Guideline No. 15/2018) using F.I.D., P.I.D, instruments with infrared and electrochemical sensors for the quantification of different gaseous compounds using a Flux Chamber.
Our service starts with field activities with instrumental acquisition, and ends with data processing and reporting, also offering consulting services on possible improvements aimed at reducing emissions.
Our laboratory also has advanced equipment for rapid screening of fugitive emissions using smart- OGI techniques pursuant to EN 17628.
We carry out monitoring campaigns by means of sensory surveys in the field (Odour Field Inspection), in compliance with the reference of standard UNI EN 16841 and by means of point sampling of the various emission sources in accordance with standard UNI EN 13725, which make it possible to es_mate or measure the level of odour nuisance to which the population is exposed, and subsequently elaborate dispersion models in the atmosphere.
We monitor atmospheric emissions of smoke, dust and gases from industrial plants. We sample and analyse gaseous emissions into the atmosphere in accordance with Italian L.D. 152/2006 (Consolidated Environmental Act) with instruments and sampling lines that measure and analyse according to the most advanced and continuously updated methodologies.
Samples are taken in accordance with European and national standards and with the criteria laid down in the accreditation standards UNI IEC EN ISO/IEC 17025.
T&A carries out fluid dynamic modelling of pollution phenomena from industrial activities and odour dispersion modelling.
Calpuff and Breeze Aermod©7 software are currently used. The Calpuff model is a non- stationary Gaussian model that simulates the diffusion of pollutants through the release of a continuous series of puffs, following their trajectory according to meteorological conditions.
Aermod is a steady-state model in which the atmospheric dispersion of the pollutant emitted by a source is simulated by adopting a Gaussian concentration distribution.
Both are among the “preferred/recommended models” of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Calpuff was developed by Earth Tech Inc. on behalf of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the EPA
Odour impact is generally measured from odour concentration data expressed in odorimetric or olfactometric units per cubic metre (ouE/m3), which represent the number of dilutions according to UNI EN 13725. For odour dispersion modelling Calpuff model is employed.
In addition, we develop and implement experimental plans for the evaluation of odorous substances on a laboratory scale and research projects aimed at the study and site-specific training of electronic noses in accordance with UNI EN 13725.
